The Alfred I. DuPont Building, at 169 East Flagler Street, was built in 1937 by Marsh and Saxelbye as the headquarters for Florida National Bank. Named after the banks founder, Alfred I. du Pont, the 260-foot, 17-story building was the first Downtown high-rise to be built since the Dade County Courthouse in 1928 and served as a symbol of the city’s recovery from the Great Depression. The limestone clad-tower features the stripped and flattened classicisms of 1930s Depression Moderne, with a black granite-clad base and Art Deco interior ornamentation.

Depression is an energy drainer that makes it very difficult to function. Escaping depression is no mean feat, but the potential for doing so does exist. The following article offers tips on how you can beat depression. You have to try hard to conquer depression, but it is something you can do.

Your diet may affect your depression. The very cycle of depression you’re trying to escape can be caused by unhealthy foods that have subtle, but unmistakable effects on the way your mind works. Fatty foods should be avoided and a healthy diet should be maintained.

Try to get some psychological help. Medication combined with therapy is the most effective treatment for depression available. Studies show that doing two treatments together is better than one on its own. Medication helps to repair the chemical imbalance in your brain, while therapy works at changing your behaviors.

Look to spend time with friends that are upbeat and funny to banish your depression. Choose to spend more time with those people who have an optimistic nature and minimize your contact with people who prefer to focus on negative thoughts and situations. Simply thinking about who you choose to spend time with can be helpful in giving insight into your own feelings.

You need to seek help from a professional if you are suffering from clinical depression or even routine sadness. They can provide you with a more specific diagnosis, and advise you of any course of action you should take to manage the depression. In addition, they can aid in identifying the specific depression category that you may fall within.

Just getting a sufficient amount of rest every night can be a great way to help battle depression. Insomnia and restlessness are just a couple of the common causes of depression, which is why it’s so important to get as much sleep as possible each night. Stay active and at night, it will be easier to sleep.

Realize that you alone can determine how you deal with depression in your life. Banish the word depression and its counterparts from your vocabulary. This word has nothing but a negative connotation and can only lead to an increase in negative thoughts and feelings. Instead, use a term like “low mood” if you want to discuss your feelings; simply changing your language can help you feel better about your situation.

Stay active and exercise regularly as a healthy way to combat depression. The positive effects of exercise on depression are well-known. Physical activity releases endorphins that enhance your mood and lowers your level of stress. If a person who is depressed adds a daily exercise regimen, they will see their mood improve.

Try and rectify any unhealthy habits that enhance your depression. Strive to replace negative habits with positive ones. Though these negative habits may be difficult to overcome, if you are persistent and work through the feelings associated with them, you can be successful. Adopt an assertive attitude to deal with your problems.

Music can be very therapeutic, but concentrate on music that makes you happy or soothes you and not songs remind you of sad things. Try to avoid music that causes you to become pensive or sad. Listening to this kind of music does not help you move forward, and will only cause you to either stay depressed or become further depressed.

Recovery

A common reaction to depression is to withdraw from your life, your family, and your friends. This is not something that you should be trying to do. If you spend your time around positive people, instead of isolating yourself, their attitudes might just rub off on you, improving your state of depression.

You can make a huge dent in lifting your depression by following the advice given in this article. Make sure if you make changes in your life you do so slowly so that you can see what is really helping you and what really didn’t make much of a difference.
